Combat Application Tools C.A.T. M-4 Cleaning Tool
|
Item Number: CATM4
|
In the remote global environments US troops and our allies find themselves operating today, in direct support of overseas contingency operations, they encounter some of the harshest field conditions to keep their weapons clean and operational on a daily basis. Given the fine blowing sand, dust or even snow of Iraq or Afghanistan or the silt and mud of Central and South America or the Far East, basic weapons maintenance in the field will always be a problem.
The new C.A.T. M4 tool addresses the critical areas of the bolt and bolt carrier assembly and the carbon buildup that collects on the operating surfaces during prolonged firing. The C.A.T. M4 tool is a lightweight simplistic tool that has five functions in one compact rugged field ready design and it is totally American manufactured.
The tool features a CNC precision insertion yoke, which rapidly removes any carbon buildup or foreign debris from the external operating surface of the bolt. The tool also prevents any inadvertent damage to the gas rings with the engineered feature of a protective shoulder that acts as a rest for the outer edge of the bolt. This portion of the tool replaces the need by the operator to scrape away carbon with the edge of a knife or the un-prescribed use of a wire brush, which could inadvertently displace or break off a gas ring thus rendering the weapon unserviceable in the tactical environment.
Another function inherent in the tool’s design is a recessed cleaning area for the flat shoulder of the firing pin. Simply insert the firing pin and rotate the tool to break up what carbon residue is present.
At the other end of this simple tool is the bolt carrier-cleaning portion. In order to remove the carbon down in the carrier, simply insert the tool and rotate. The precision shaped end of the tool will break up the carbon residue, which will fall out with a tap against the palm of the hand. There is also a patch hole at the end of the tool for use when the operator wants to ensure that the weapon is inspection clean.
In the middle of the C.A.T. M4 tool is a ¼” hex head cut, this allows the operator to use the tool as a “T” handle with the addition of any standard ¼” drive or extension with a bit to tighten, remove or exchange the multitude of attachments such as lights, lasers or sight systems. The carrier-cleaning end also comes in handy for tightening the removable carrying handle and works well on the adjustment dials when sighting in an Aimpoint â.
The C.A.T. M4 tool is made of 300 series stainless steel and has a rugged non-reflective finished to prevent shine. We have worked hard at Combat Application Tools, Inc. to develop a simple yet multi-functional tool that will make the lives of any military personnel, law enforcement officer or competitor equipped with the M16/M4 weapons system much simpler. The C.A.T. M4 tool is a time saver, and possibly a lifesaver by giving the men and women in the combat environment a way to rapidly achieve “Tactical Tolerance” on their weapons system. Think of it as Immediate Action for Dirty Weapon.

Great idea behind this! It does exactly what it says and does it much quicker and easier than the old way of scraping with a screwdriver ;). I will say $35 for such a small simple device seemed steep but if you're cleaning an M4 every day for a year its worth it!
The scraper for the carrier does a pretty good job but it doesn't get ALL of the carbon out. You definitely need to put a patch on it and finish the job that way. The firing pin cleaner does a pretty decent job at cleaning the carbon off of the neck but it doesn't get it spotless. The best part is definitely the bolt cleaner/scraper end. You can't tell from the pictures here but it is sharpened a bit and does an AWESOME job!
Overall this little cleaning tool is worth it if you're constantly cleaning your weapon!
