Blackhawk Desert Ops Boots
Peter Franklin (Fort Campbell, KY) 7/17/2011 4:17 AM
I purchased these at the US Cav store at Fort Campbell back in January, just prior to my deployment to Afghanistan. They were extremely comfy in garrison, feeling more like a sneaker than a boot. They are light, waterproof and take very little time to break in. In fact, two days after I bought these, we had a 6 mile ruck march for PT...and with these boots still pretty much out of the box I thought i would be in for blisters and raw spots....but to the contrary my feet never felt better after we were done. In Afghanistan they held up very well, though i was there for only 3 months with them, but the held up in the mountains very well. I do have to note that when you first lace them up, I would recommend reversing the standard lace so that the laces come from below the gromit and up over the top and sinch in the ankle a bit more. the standard lacing does not do this and lets the fourth gromit spill open and the boot looks and feels like crap. Overall, the only problems have been the soft laces that I will soon be replacing with tan 550 cord, the soft and exposed lugs on the sole that start to split and crack if you get them caught on rough rocks. Other than that, never had a more delightful pair of boots to wear into combat or around post.
